IPE 750 x 173 - Section Properties

IPE 750 x 173 has a mass of 173 kg/m, tabulated to EN 10365. A 12 m length therefore weighs about 2076 kg, which is the figure to use for a steel take-off or when checking a lift.

IPE 750 x 173 has a depth of 762 mm, a width of 267 mm, a web thickness of 14.4 mm, a flange thickness of 21.6 mm, with a cross-sectional area of 221 cm². These are the nominal dimensions from EN 10365; rolling tolerances apply to the delivered section.

Column buckling is governed by the SMALLER value: the slenderness is lambda = L_cr / i, so with iz = 5.57 cm a 0.6 m effective length already gives lambda = 100. Minor-axis buckling almost always controls unless the weak axis is restrained.

The St Venant torsion constant It is 270 cm⁴, and the warping constant Iw is 9.39 dm⁶. Open sections carry torsion mainly by warping rather than uniform torsion, which is why Iw appears in the lateral-torsional buckling resistance - both values feed M_b,Rd.
