What this standard covers
EN 1992 (Eurocode 2 - Design of concrete structures) is the European standard for the design of plain, reinforced and prestressed concrete. It covers the design of members at ultimate and serviceability limit states, together with detailing, durability and fire.
EN 1992-1-1 is the general part used for buildings: material properties for concrete and reinforcement, bending and axial force, shear, punching, torsion, buckling of slender members, serviceability checks on cracking and deflection, and the detailing rules for anchorage, laps and member reinforcement. EN 1992-1-2 covers structural fire design, EN 1992-2 bridges, EN 1992-3 liquid-retaining structures and EN 1992-4 fastenings for use in concrete.
Durability is handled through exposure classes: the environment a member sits in determines the concrete class and the cover to reinforcement, and those choices feed back into the structural design. Concrete strength classes follow EN 206, so a design to EN 1992 uses the C classes rather than a national classification.

- The design of regions where plane sections do not remain plane - deep beams, corbels, pile caps and openings - by an equilibrium truss model.
When to use this standard
Use EN 1992 for concrete design under the Eurocodes - beams, slabs, columns, walls, foundations, and fastenings into concrete through EN 1992-4. Loads come from EN 1991 and are combined by EN 1990. In Vietnam the corresponding national standard is TCVN 5574, which is used instead of, not alongside, this one.
How it fits with the other standards
Loads come from EN 1991 and are combined by EN 1990. Composite steel-concrete members are designed to EN 1994; foundations use EN 1997 for the ground and EN 1992 for the concrete; seismic design adds EN 1998. Fastenings into concrete are covered by EN 1992-4.
